CETC is Not for Profit (Limited by Guarantee) registered on 15th February 2017 by Uganda Registration Services Bureau.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space hide_on_desktop=”” hide_on_notebook=”” hide_on_tablet=”” hide_on_mobile=”” css=”.vc_custom_1529332475414{margin-bottom: 0.9rem !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″ icons_position=”left”][vc_empty_space height=”0″ alter_height=”none” hide_on_desktop=”” hide_on_notebook=”” hide_on_tablet=”” hide_on_mobile=”” css=”.vc_custom_1529332636806{margin-bottom: -0.7rem !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”1498″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column icons_position=”left”][vc_empty_space alter_height=”large” hide_on_desktop=”” hide_on_notebook=”” hide_on_tablet=”” hide_on_mobile=””][vc_column_text css_animation=”zoomIn”]In line with the National Tourism policy, the CETC Board of Trustees and Directors have focused on a niche in the promotion of Community tourism and conservation of both environment and wildlife in Uganda.

To ensure a sustainable future for the tourism sector, Government takes initiatives to stimulate and address environmental challenges in the development of the ecotourism sector. To supplement Government efforts, CETC supports neighbouring local Communities and works with them to promote ecotourism and conservation efforts.  It is for this reason that CETC, together with the US Peace Corps Volunteer started a women’s group, Nakoosi Village Savings and Loans Association, Nakoosi VSLA.

CETC works with Stakeholders and Partners. These include the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA), Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC), Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), National Environment Authority(NEMA), Local Government, and other Government Agencies.

Vision, Mission and Core Values

Based on the guiding principles and core values, and in consultation with key stakeholders, CETC has refined its vision and mission.

Vision

A destination of choice in tourism promotion and Conservation of rare and endangered fauna and flora species with Communities living prosperously in harmony with nature and wildlife.

Mission

To protect and promote environment and wildlife conservation for sustainable community tourism in Uganda and East Africa.

Core Values

CETC has evolved through values which also provide the foundation on which this strategic plan is anchored.

  • Commitment
  • Diligence, selflessness
  • Respect for all stakeholders
  • Accountability
  • Integrity
  • Respect for diversity and inclusiveness
  • Hard work

Sector Situation Analysis in context

Uganda forms the northern part of the Albertine Rift region which has more threatened and endemic vertebrates than anywhere else in Africa. There are many wildlife species that are rare or near extinction if solutions to their conservation are not urgently deployed. Examples of a few near-extinction animal species include Lion (Panthera) Okapi, (Okapia johnstoni), Sitatunga (Tragelaphus), Waterbuck (Kobus), Ostrich (Struthio), Crowned crane (Balearica) Shoebill (Baleaniceps) and many others.

CETC has also identified various indigenous plants, birds and butterfly species. An inventory establishing wild plants and animals has been established.

Some enclosures have been constructed for Ostriches, Parrots and Tortoises. To achieve our conservation plan, more enclosures have to be constructed to protect both fauna and flora.

CETC Challenges

The main activity at CETC is the conservation of rare and endangered species of both fauna and flora. Attempts have been made to achieve this but a lot more needs to be done.

On 22nd January 2022, CETC launched a Master Plan and an Eco-Tourism Management Plan. Our Stakeholders and Partners were represented at the launch.

In giving their approval, Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) recommended the construction of more enclosures and fencing.

Community skilling and empowerment are also needed to support tourism and conservation efforts. It is for these reasons that support from our Stakeholders and Partners is needed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column icons_position=”left”][vc_empty_space alter_height=”large” hide_on_desktop=”” hide_on_notebook=”” hide_on_tablet=”” hide_on_mobile=”” css=”.vc_custom_1529398822063{margin-bottom: -0.3rem !important;}”]

I was eager to take a stride into the jungle. My first stopover was at the rock garden, which overlooks a camping area kept in pristine conditions. At the rock garden, you can have bonding sessions and friendly conversations.
A few steps away lies a mini zoo. Established in 2019, the zoo has two ostriches (a rooster and a hen), parrots and tortoises. As a caretaker, Sarah Nakalema keeps the animals in the zoo in tip-top shape.
